Filming Blog

We did not go filming this weekend. We did not go disliking because none of our group mates were available as three of us had to work, while the last person was out of town with their family. Not getting to film this weekend will not harm our progress of making this music video because we have found a day to film. We planned on when we were going to film while we were doing the story board in order to stay ahead. During the commercial we did not plan efficiently, which made us fall behind on the whole process of making our commercial. This time we planned for any emergencies. We did this by knowing what everyone had going on between the time we were given the story board to when the music video was due. We used this time period in order to plan the process we were going to take. We decided to film the weekend of thanksgiving. This was because everyone would be free at this time.
We have also planned to check out the camera during the week on Tuesday. This is so that we have the equipment needed to film. We also had to make sure that we had our parents permission. Our parents rule everything we do and we had to get their permission in order to be able to do any type of filming. This is why we are going to film thanksgiving weekend because everyone has their parents permission. The parents understand that this is an important grade and we need to be allowed to go places to film. If not we would receive an F and they would definitely not like that. We have made the plan to meet up at one of our group mates house. From there we will use their car to go to the different places we want featured in our video. They have also agreed to get the necessary props that we will use through our video.
The plan for me is different. I have to work the day that we have planned to film. I originally had to work from 2:30 pm to 8 pm and we had planned to film from between 2 pm to 6 pm. In order for me to be apart of the process I had to talk to my job in order to switch my schedule to a way earlier one that will have me off by 2. I will bring the clothes I am going to wear in the video to work with me and change into them when I get off. From there the group mate with the car will pick me up from work and then continue on with our plan. This is actually easier for the group mate because where I work is very close to them. The rest of our plan would entitle us to go back to the group mates house. From there we will wait for the other group mates and then go on with filming our commercial. This demonstrates that us not filming this weekend has no negative effects towards our music video process because we have planned for it.

Story Board Blog

  1. 1. Our customs will be casual everyday clothing. However, the lightening during this time period will be bright being that it’s the peak of the day. During all our scenes we won't wear makeup. Although we will use props such as our phone to play the music.  we will use a wide shot being that we want the mall scenery to be seen. Angles during this shot is a high angle to emphasize us making memories together. We probably a use a pan shot to create us in like an establishing shot of our scene.
  1. 2. They’re no custom change and the same lightening will be used. During this shot we will create a high shot because were dancing to the music. The dancing will be our acting. The setting of this will still be in the parking lot of galleria mall.
  1. 3. We are still in the casual clothing. We will use a point of view shot and it will be hand held being that I am encouraging them to come to the mall. We won't have any props during this scene. The setting will be us walking into galleria mall. This will also have a tracking shot because they are walking up.
  1. 4. In this scene, our costume will be casual clothing. Lighting will be bright as this scene will be shot during the day. We will be walking towards the mall entrance so our backs will be turned. We will not be wearing makeup as in this scene our faces are not shown. There are no props in this scene. The setting will be us walking from the parking lot towards the mall entrance door. For this scene we will be using tracking shot and wide shot.
  1. 5. For this scene, there is no costume change. Lighting will be dim since we are inside the mall. Our acting, is us dancing as we’re looking through the store. There is no makeup used in this scene. Props are clothing in the store. Setting will be inside a store. We will be using medium shots, two people shot, and pan.
  1. 6. This scene has no costume change. Lighting will be dim. Our acting will be socializing amongst each other. We will not be using makeup in this scene. Our props will be shopping bags. Setting will be the escalators of the mall. We will use low angle.
  1. 7. In this scene, the costume will be casual, every day, clothing. We will be sitting in the car heading to the beach. The lighting in the scene will be natural daylight.  The scene will be taken on the tripod where the camera is stationary. The actors will be singing along and enjoying the featured song in the music video. No make-up will be used in this scene.
  1. 8. In this scene, the costume will still be casual everyday clothing. We will still be in the car driving to the beach. The movement of this scene will be a tracking shot of the City of Fort Lauderdale outside of the car window. There will be no acting in this scene. Because the actors will still be in the car there will be no props as well. The actors will also wear no make-up. The lighting in this scene will be natural daylight.
  1. 9. For this scene, the friends arrive at the beach. An establishing shot will be taken to show the setting. The actors are not shown in this scene therefore, there will be no make-up used on the actors or any costume changes. The lighting in the scene will be natural daylight.
  1. 10.This scene is going to have us going into the bathroom or fitting rooms with our regular clothes and then leave the fitting room with beach clothes on. This shows that we are changing to go chill at the beach. This goes correspondingly with the vibes we want for our video. We won’t be acting in this shot and will use a wide shot.
  1. 11. In this scene we will be seen having fun at the beach. We won’t have any sound in this film except the song. We will make some of the lyrics concerning the beach match up to us at the beach. The props we will have are a beach towel, speaker, beach umbrella, cups, coolers, and food. We will have on the beach attire and just be seen having fun; laughter, smiling, and dancing included. This portrays the chill vibe of the song that we want to capture and we will use a wide shot.
  1. 12. In this shot we will be seen parting ways. After a long day of fun and creating memories with each other by just chilling with each other. We will be putting away the same props from last time. We will have the music fading out as we are leaving. This hints at the song ending and the day will be over. The sun should be setting around that time as well. We will use a wide shot for this.

Planning Blog

My group mates and I chose three different locations to film at. Our music video begins at galleria which is a shopping mall close by. We'll start in the parking lot blasting Sky Walker by Miguel, but not very loud because we don’t want to disturb any mall securities. We will then transition to inside the mail to buying beach wear which is our attire for the beach. After purchasing our beach wear, we will transition to the beach to have a little party among each other. However, we will ask permission from the store we go to film. If it rains or galleria ask us to leave, we will try a different mall and if it rains, we’ll just choose another day to do the beach scene.
For our health and safety, we will make sure to wear seat belts while driving. We will do this because there are many consequences of driving without a seat belt such as getting in an accident and flying through the windshield and getting a ticket. We will also look both ways before crossing any streets to avoid getting hit by a car and we will also make sure the driver will not text and drive. We will also not leave our belongings in the car because robbers would be able to see that and they might try to break into the car in order to get the items. These safety precautions will make sure to keep us safe during our filming process.
We will have a good number of props. Our props will vary during our mall scenes we will have vary shopping bags filled with beach clothing to prepare us for our transition to the beach. At the beach we will have numerous of props to create the scene of having a party. Some of these props will include cups, a beach umbrella, beach towel, cooler and a speaker. Each group member would have to provide at least one prop.
The costumes that we will wear are casual clothes. We are going to wear causal clothes in order to convey the chill vibes theme that we have throughout our video. We want to make sure that we don’t wear anything inappropriate as well, which is why we will make sure to keep the clothes we wear appropriate for school. We are going to switch clothes into our beach clothes for the beach. We are going to make sure that our beach clothes are not showing too much skin. For the girls, if they have a two-piece, they are going to wear something over that to cover it up. For me I will wear a t-shirt and some swimming trunks in order to convey the beach theme and be appropriate. These costumes are the most efficient way to keep our theme and to keep it school appropriate.
We have a set schedule for the rest of our filming process. Today and tomorrow we have to finish our planning and story boarding process. Then we have to create a filming blog on whether we decide to film this weekend or not.  Which we decided to film on 11/30 during the thanksgiving break. This gives us 3 class periods to edit because our music video is due 12/09 . This planning gives us an advantage if any thing happens during the filming process we have another day to correct it.

Final Blog

Today we finally finished editing the commercial. We used all of the footage that my group shot when I was not here and used footage that was shot while I was there. All of the footage together was way over thirty seconds. This made us have to challenge ourselves to edit it so that the film was thirty seconds because the maximum was thirty and the minimum was twenty five seconds. In order to do that we had to cut down some of our footage. We cut out some of the long parts of them handing the staff water and just showed the staff either opening the water or drinking it. We had to end up editing the establishing shot as well because it took up half of the time by itself. We sped the shot up and cut some of the unnecessary things out such as the film starting from the sky, then Sun, and then going to the logo of the school. We made it so that it started from the sun and then went to the logo of the school. We kept adjusting this shot until we felt that it was perfect for the viewers to know where the commercial is taking place.
We also had to leave some of the footage shot out after we seen how long the uncut commercial was. We had to leave out a scene with a student and the water, but we knew that since we had a student from a sport in the commercial it would balance itself out. The commercial's editing process took almost the entire class period to do. It took this long because of all the cuts and adjustments that we had to make. We like how it looks now, but we will probably tweak it a little bit more next class period. We will tweak it because it may have looked perfect to us at first glance, but when we watch it repeatedly we will see some things we need to change. For the sound we recorded the bell change. We kept the people talking in the back in the recording. We did this because we wanted the commercial to feel real. Since the establishing shot shows that the commercial is being filmed inside the school we wanted the bell to emphasize that feeling.
We only wanted the bell change recording for a specific shot, but we are trying to figure out which shot the sound would fit. We are going to figure that out next class period. We are going to play background music throughout the rest of the commercial. We got this idea from other water commercials we have seen. We have the music downloaded already we are just waiting to find the bell spot. We are waiting for the bell spot in order to see where we will play the rest of the music. The editing process at first was difficult. It was difficult because of the missing group members, the missing supplies, the software shutting down, and the computers moving slowly. Even though it was difficult we still persevered and our editing process started running smoothly. Now we are almost done with everything and know exactly what we want to do. This editing process was a success.

Editing Blog

I was not here for the beginning of the editing process, but I heard from my group mates that because I was not there that it made the process way harder with just two people. The class before when I was there we only had one shot completed, which means that they had to shoot the rest of the film by themselves. They told me they finished around 10:35. Since class ended at 10:50 they had to rush to dump their raw footage on the computer. Raw footage is footage that has not be edited yet. They then told me that when they got to the class room the editing software was down. The editing software that we use is called Pinnacle Studios that was already installed into the desktops. The computers were going very slow as well. It took 10 minutes in order for the login screen to pop up. This made them only have 5 minutes left to dump and import the footage. The result of that was they had to edit next class. The difficulty of the beginning of the editing process was extreme because of all the things my group had to go through between me not being there, the time frame, the software not working and how slow the computer was working.
They also had a lack of materials which caused the time frame to be so short. They were missing a cooler to keep the water bottles they had cold. They were missing the cooler because when we had the cooler it broke and we did not have time to get another one. They wanted them to be cold so that they could get the "water condensation look". This means that they wanted the water bottle to look like it was sweating with water running down the sides. This effect would show viewers the water was very cold and refreshing for someone who was just working out. They had to scratch that idea of them getting the "water condensation look". This costs them more time in the editing phase because they had to think of a new way to display the Pure Life water. Once they found the new way to film they had to speed up the process in order to have enough time editing. They finished filming in the time that they wanted, but was still not able to edit because of the computers.
The teacher allowed everyone to edit the next day because of the malfunctioning. They had to wait to get lap tops with the software we use installed already. Once the software was installed the lap tops were brought the next class period. The only thing my group mates did not get when filming was the sound. This extra day that we received gave us time to get that sound. Since I would be able to get the sound I helped with the sound part. recorded one of the bell changes with the people walking and talking in the back ground. We  wanted it like this so viewers would know that the commercial was happening at a school. It goes with the establishing shot that we filmed and when the computers came we were going to add it into the scene. Although the editing process was a bit rocky in the beginning with the software being down, lack of materials and me not there it was good as well. The rockiness created some more opportunities for us as a group, which in the end worked out perfectly for us to get all of the materials needed to edit the video.
