Final Blog

Today we finally finished editing the commercial. We used all of the footage that my group shot when I was not here and used footage that was shot while I was there. All of the footage together was way over thirty seconds. This made us have to challenge ourselves to edit it so that the film was thirty seconds because the maximum was thirty and the minimum was twenty five seconds. In order to do that we had to cut down some of our footage. We cut out some of the long parts of them handing the staff water and just showed the staff either opening the water or drinking it. We had to end up editing the establishing shot as well because it took up half of the time by itself. We sped the shot up and cut some of the unnecessary things out such as the film starting from the sky, then Sun, and then going to the logo of the school. We made it so that it started from the sun and then went to the logo of the school. We kept adjusting this shot until we felt that it was perfect for the viewers to know where the commercial is taking place.
We also had to leave some of the footage shot out after we seen how long the uncut commercial was. We had to leave out a scene with a student and the water, but we knew that since we had a student from a sport in the commercial it would balance itself out. The commercial's editing process took almost the entire class period to do. It took this long because of all the cuts and adjustments that we had to make. We like how it looks now, but we will probably tweak it a little bit more next class period. We will tweak it because it may have looked perfect to us at first glance, but when we watch it repeatedly we will see some things we need to change. For the sound we recorded the bell change. We kept the people talking in the back in the recording. We did this because we wanted the commercial to feel real. Since the establishing shot shows that the commercial is being filmed inside the school we wanted the bell to emphasize that feeling.
We only wanted the bell change recording for a specific shot, but we are trying to figure out which shot the sound would fit. We are going to figure that out next class period. We are going to play background music throughout the rest of the commercial. We got this idea from other water commercials we have seen. We have the music downloaded already we are just waiting to find the bell spot. We are waiting for the bell spot in order to see where we will play the rest of the music. The editing process at first was difficult. It was difficult because of the missing group members, the missing supplies, the software shutting down, and the computers moving slowly. Even though it was difficult we still persevered and our editing process started running smoothly. Now we are almost done with everything and know exactly what we want to do. This editing process was a success.
