Editing Blog

I was not here for the beginning of the editing process, but I heard from my group mates that because I was not there that it made the process way harder with just two people. The class before when I was there we only had one shot completed, which means that they had to shoot the rest of the film by themselves. They told me they finished around 10:35. Since class ended at 10:50 they had to rush to dump their raw footage on the computer. Raw footage is footage that has not be edited yet. They then told me that when they got to the class room the editing software was down. The editing software that we use is called Pinnacle Studios that was already installed into the desktops. The computers were going very slow as well. It took 10 minutes in order for the login screen to pop up. This made them only have 5 minutes left to dump and import the footage. The result of that was they had to edit next class. The difficulty of the beginning of the editing process was extreme because of all the things my group had to go through between me not being there, the time frame, the software not working and how slow the computer was working.
They also had a lack of materials which caused the time frame to be so short. They were missing a cooler to keep the water bottles they had cold. They were missing the cooler because when we had the cooler it broke and we did not have time to get another one. They wanted them to be cold so that they could get the "water condensation look". This means that they wanted the water bottle to look like it was sweating with water running down the sides. This effect would show viewers the water was very cold and refreshing for someone who was just working out. They had to scratch that idea of them getting the "water condensation look". This costs them more time in the editing phase because they had to think of a new way to display the Pure Life water. Once they found the new way to film they had to speed up the process in order to have enough time editing. They finished filming in the time that they wanted, but was still not able to edit because of the computers.
The teacher allowed everyone to edit the next day because of the malfunctioning. They had to wait to get lap tops with the software we use installed already. Once the software was installed the lap tops were brought the next class period. The only thing my group mates did not get when filming was the sound. This extra day that we received gave us time to get that sound. Since I would be able to get the sound I helped with the sound part. recorded one of the bell changes with the people walking and talking in the back ground. We  wanted it like this so viewers would know that the commercial was happening at a school. It goes with the establishing shot that we filmed and when the computers came we were going to add it into the scene. Although the editing process was a bit rocky in the beginning with the software being down, lack of materials and me not there it was good as well. The rockiness created some more opportunities for us as a group, which in the end worked out perfectly for us to get all of the materials needed to edit the video.
